ABA Conducted Coordination Meeting between Banks-STO

To avoid tax evasion by tax payers (Individuals and businesses) and strengthen transparency and accountability, ABA arranged Banks- Small Tax Office (STO) and FinTRACA meeting at ABA Office.
The meeting was commenced by Mr. Najibullah Amiri ABA Executive Director welcoming remarks. Following to that? Mr. Amanullah Amin Director STO, briefed banks on the problems they are facing in receiving bank accounts of tax payers from banks. He added that, at the time of conducting qualitative audit, we need to have bank statement of tax payers (companies-individuals). Some of banks delaying providing bank statement to STO, despite STO presents court order to the banks for providing the same, although banks cooperation with MTO and LTO is admirable. He further mentioned that, there are companies not paying their tax liabilities – committing tax evasion which results reduction in revenue of government and hence low development and economic growth. In this respect banks cooperation with the STO, MTO and LTO is highly needed. Subsequently, a presentation was delivered by STO Officials where the objective, benefits and circumstances of sharing bank statement was explained.
Conclusion:
• Banks should share bank statement as per request of STO, MTO and LTO at least in 3 working days.
• The MOF tax offices, will not sent large number of account holders to banks
• STO will introduce focal points to the banks and banks will be sharing their focal points with contact details with STO through ABA to avoid dis-coordination.
